The Tower Hamlets Film Office, in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council, recently launched its very first “On Location: Film Training” course and we are pleased to report it was a smashing success! 15 residents based in the borough with various industry backgrounds were provided a 1 day training course which covered a range of topics including practical radio training, on set lingo and etiquette, CV writing and networking.
Developed in collaboration with thecallsheet.co.uk and ran by Matt Gallagher, Amie Tridgell and Jude Winstanely and funded directly Tower Hamlets Council and productions based in the borough, we are delighted to be able to offer this course throughout the year and can’t wait for the next one! The course was run at the newly renovated grand Tower Hamlets Town Hall in Whitechapel, with participants spending a day getting a flavour for what it is like to work on a set!
As part of our aftercare programme we are also delighted to have our first trainees gain on set work with a TV Drama shooting this month and we will look to support all participants in the coming months, getting course alumni onto shoots to continue their path into the industry!
Olwyn Hinds, the Head of Film Office Management who has been working on setting up the course over the past year commented “The Film and Television Industry is notorious for being incredibly competitive and difficult to get a foot in the door of. Here at the Tower Hamlets Film Office, we continually strive to put our Tower Hamlets residents at the forefront of what we are trying to achieve at bringing continually high levels of filming to the borough, and it is through large TV Dramas and Films choosing to film here that we were and are able to fund this exciting course for willing participants who are interested in gaining a greater understanding of what it is like working on a set, as well as future paid positions of productions filming in the area. Working in close collaboration with Tower Hamlets Council we held our first course in March of this year and it was fantastic to oversee the running of the course on the day and to see the tangible benefits come to life that filming in the borough brings. We had some fantastic feedback from all the participants and we can’t wait to put on our next course later in the year!”
